I loved reading this spin-off from the Night Huntress series. Before this, I did not have a strong feel for who Mencheres was. After reading this, though, I have a much greater sense of who he is and what drives him. He is a man that does everything he can to protect those he cares about, but believes he is not worthy of happiness because of the lengths he has had to go to providing protection. He has gone thousands of years without desiring someone to love, but that changes with Kira.
I REALLY like Kira. She is the perfect match for Mencheres, they are so similar. Both are self-sacrificing for those they love. She is such a strong and identifiable.
Vlad (Dracula, though he hates being called that). He is my favorite character in the whole series, and I’m so glad he was in this story. He is sexy, funny, and a bad-ass with fire-wielding abilities. Cannot wait to read his trilogy, but that is another blog.
I recommend reading this, especially if you’ve read the other books in the series. If you love action, supernatural, dream-worthy characters, and humor, this book is for you. It does have some parts to it which were sort of repetitive, like the internal struggle Mencheres deals with. But still, a very good read, giving an insight into a very mysterious vampire.
